Horror Film About Harvey Weinstein Coming from Director of ‘Carrie’ and ‘Scarface’

Spooked.

Brian de Palma, who you might best know as the director of Carrie and Scarface, is right now working on a new horror film based on one of the most horrifying people of all — Harvey Weinstein, who has recently been arrested on multiple counts of sexual misconduct.

In an interview with Le Parisien, de Palma said “it will be a horror film, with a sexual aggressor, and it will take place in the film industry,” but that the main character won’t be named after Weinstein.

He also spoke of the #MeToo movement, and what a female gaze might look like.

“It will be interesting to see when women start controlling the aesthetic, what is going to happen,” he said. “It would be interesting to see if their gaze is so much different than ours. Because a lot of movies are about the male gaze, what the male sees.”

I suppose we’ll find out if his perspective on this story, one that is absolutely about female experience, is as nuanced as it might be from a female gaze.
