Mariah Carey Is Writing A Memoir Detailing Her Journey With Mental Health Issues

I’ll be there.

Incredible being and queen of mostly everything, Mariah Carey, revealed earlier this week that she has been living with bipolar II. Diagnosed in 2001 and still currently in therapy and on medication, Mimi has been — to us — living her best life, but on the inside has been in constant fear of being exposed.

“I was working and working and working,” she told People. “It turns out that I was experiencing a form of mania. Eventually I would just hit a wall. I guess my depressive episodes were characterised by having very low energy. I would feel so lonely and sad — even guilty that I wasn’t doing what I needed to be doing for my career.”

In a repot from Page Six, Mariah says that she has been “looking inward” and is working on a memoir that she hopes will lessen the stigmas associated with mental health issues and help other people who’re struggling. “I’m hopeful we can get to a place where the stigma is lifted from people going through anything alone. It can be incredibly isolating,” she said. “It does not have to define you and I refuse to allow it to define me or control me.” Mimi <3
